Akbari Pistachio is recognized as the most premium and longest commercial pistachio variety produced in Iran. Internationally known as Akbari Super Long Pistachio, it is distinguished by its elegant elongated shape, naturally open shell, high kernel-to-shell ratio, and attractive appearance, making it one of the highest-value pistachios in the global market.
Akbari pistachios are primarily cultivated in Kerman Province, particularly in the major pistachio-growing regions of Rafsanjan, Anar, Sirjan, Zarand, Kerman, and Shahrbabak, where the climate and soil conditions are ideal for producing premium export-quality pistachios. Kerman remains Iran’s largest pistachio-producing province and the country’s principal export hub.
This variety is commercially available in several export size grades, including 18/20, 20/22, 22/24, and 24/26 kernels per ounce, with 18/20 representing the largest and most premium grade. Its elongated shape, excellent natural split percentage, large kernel size, and ease of shell opening make it highly desirable for luxury retail packaging and premium roasted pistachio products.
Akbari Pistachio is widely exported to China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, India, the GCC countries, and premium European markets, where consumers value its impressive appearance, large size, and rich flavor. It is frequently selected for high-end retail shelves, gift packaging, luxury nut assortments, and gourmet food applications. Due to its superior presentation and strong international demand, Akbari Pistachio is considered one of the flagship export varieties of the Iranian pistachio industry and represents the highest level of quality among long pistachio cultivars.
